Well, since this is the Quadrangle, we might as well take this cutest strip "seriously". Hee!
When we were in Virchers once, hunting for free hair, we got to talk about the apparent opposition between cuteness and elegance. It all started when Sushuri-chei chose for herself a hairstyle that reminded us very much of Yumi-chan from Maria-sama ga Miteru. And, as many of us know, this series is really full of beauty and Yumi-chan is the representative of the cute and innocent side of Marimite. But, opposed to her, is the elegant and mature Sachiko-sama, who is the person Yumi-chan loves and respects most.
Miss Lavender brought up the question of the opposition between these two. Likewise, many films depicts an almost contradiction between innocence and elegance (mostly regarded as Femme Fatales). We agreed, after some discussion, that cuteness and elegance were not opposed. In fact, they would be different aspects on the same side of a coin, so to speak. In the case of Marimite, they are good girls, who obey the beautiful order of the Yamayurikai and that contain the cute ones, the elegant ones, as well as the simple-but-neat ones and even the vikhelic ones. It is a complete world, just like Aristasia, where girls are different, but ultimately they are good and loving girls. And just like the brunette displinarian and the silly teenie blonde we saw earlier.
In the case of Tellurian innocent and cute opposed to Femme Fatale ones, I believe that is a different matter. When one thinks of such elegant characters, they are not necessarily good. Sometimes, they are the villains - promiscuous, evil, deceiving. Although the maintenance of a beautiful appearance is really the correct thing to do (as explained in the Cosmetic Philosophy from the Mother God lekkiesite), we once had a discussion where we came to the conclusion that beauty may not always be used to honor Order or to keep one's dignity. Maid may choose to use it for bad things - as we often see it everywhere.
Well, I don't really know how to make a conclusion from all that I said, since it is a rather comprehensive subject. So, what are your thought on this matter?
