The schizomorphi of Nihon, much as they may be maligned for modernism, have an instinct for all that is rich and strange, for all that is pure and perfect, for all that calls to our most limpid inner depths.

Their passion for the kawaii, so derided by the profane, is in truth an attempt to return to the primordial innocence and perfect goodness of a childhood that is not merely lack of years but reaches into the pristine profundity of the inner soul untainted by the world's detritus.

When they reach to the West, sometimes they fall gravely into error, copying the worst of its ways, but sometimes they find that which the West itself can neither value nor truly see.

The young lady you are about to see is a Culverian, who has made kinematics of herself, either staring silently at the camera or speaking in her very limited Japanese. Has she grown up in Culveria untainted by the deluge of false culture? Or is she merely depicting an innocence that lies in her inner depths - for quite surely it does so lie?

Whichever answer is true - and it scarcely signifies - she has become a "star" in Nihon. This very kinematic has over five million views, almost entirely provided by her Nihonjin fans (the comments in English reflect all the foul crudity of the barbaric West and I conjure you not to find them).

But words can convey little enough. See for yourself.

Personally, I see little value in this kinnie, entertainment-wise or culture-wise.

I can see the appeal of a pretty maiden on camera, and of simplicity, but this strikes me as narcissism, not innocence. Why would a person want to make a kinematic picture of herself unless she is doing something? Why not take a snapshot? I can appreciate "kawaii", but I don't think that this is it.

I also do not understand the bongos' desire to plaster Elektraspace with images of themselves that do not have a point to them. (Fashion photography, for example, has a point. Images that illustrate a how-to process have a point.)

I especially don't understand why five million people would call this entertainment.

Maybe I am jaded, but I want my performerettes to...well, do something!

Strange, yes. Rich, no.

My humble opinion.

In amity,
Miss Juliesse

What a beautiful kinnie! I do adore Miss Garland.

Isn't it funny how differently we can see things sometimes. I just loved this clip. There was something quite compelling about this girl and she really didn't (to my mind) seem bongo at all - that was the fascinating thing - or one of them - it is really hard to believe she is a modern West Telluri. She just doesn't feel like one to me.

Well all right, what do I know about modern West Telluri? Not a huge amount I agree, but this girl seemed just - well quite different. And her simply being there, being herself, practising her simple art of being cute - well that seemed to be the loveliest thing of all.

Hee - well I suppose it takes all sorts to make a world.

(I liked the Judy Garland kinnie too, mascûli apart. What a fine entertainer she is!)

This makes me think of one of those jokes - do you know them? - the jokes that make one absolutely float to the ceiling with laughter (à la Poppins) - and then burst into uproarious giggling for weeks after every time one thinks about them?

Is it just me, or do they tend to be the very jokes that have the same effect on half one's friends, while the other half stare blankly and say "What's funny about that?"

That is what I find anyway - and it seems to be just the same with this girl and her remarkable posing! Some people find it leaves them quite blank and others are just struck dumb with adoration. And I mean sound people on both sides!

For my part this has really affected me - I find myself looking up her other kinnies and just watching her. She really has something remarkable and I don't think it is something bongo. I am sure there are some awful people in the kawaii/pseudo-nihongo cultus, but this girl seems to me to go far, far deeper than that.

Here to the delight of some and the disdain of others is another of her kinnies. It too has a huge (mostly Japanese) following. Can four and a half million people be wrong? Sure - they usually are. But in this case I think it isn't really a matter of right and wrong. It is one of those things that either strikes a magic "ping" or else it doesn't.

I can't deny that she is very charming and seems to have a natural charisma that could cross cultural barriers.

The whole Kawaii movement though is a bit up in the air for me,

Miss Angelchild would you happen to know of any site or book where a history or overview of the subculture?

Should we be questioning if this maid, sweet as she is, is really a representative of the movement?
